There are literally hundreds of tanning products on the market today. The primary functions of an indoor tanning product is to moisten the skin. Moistened and nourished skin tans better. Tanning lotions help counteract the drying effects of tanning and ensure a longer lasting tan. Dry skin acts as a barrier and reflects tanning rays. The active ingredients in a salon tanning product also helps in the production of additional melanin in your skin. Tanning Accelerators are products that boost the level of tanning cells in your skin. Applying an accelerator after you shower in the morning allows your skin to generate tanning cells prior to your tanning session. This way when you enter the tanning unit you immediately start to tan the cells rather than having to create them first. Tanning Bronzers contain a dye that changes the color of your skin instantly. You have to be careful when applying tanning lotions that contain bronzers as some will streak if not applied evenly, also real dry areas of the skin will absorb more of the tanning bronzer and leave the skin a different color. Elbow, knees, between fingers, and palms of hands are the most common spots. Tingle Lotions may be referred to as hot, fire, spicy, and tingle factor. The theory behind a tingle lotion is a stimulation of the epidermal layers of your skin by using a cheap ingredient like methyl nicotinate. Most people feel their skin heat up or tingle after applying these tanning lotions. The stimulation (irritation) brings blood closer to the surface of the skin. The blood brings melanin with it. The tingle factors range from 1 to 30+ with some tanning lotion manufacturers and others use words like hot, hotter, hottest, max reddening. The higher the number is, the more intense the tingling. We do not sell or support the use of tingle lotions. Essential for a deep wholesome tan is moisturizer. The constant use of a moisturizer allows your skin to retain the tanned layers while subsequent layers are added. This combination of multiple layers is how your tan continues to darken with future tanning sessions. Indoor tanning lotions are not recommended for outdoor tanning since they do not contain SPF. You will have no sun protection outdoors. Likewise, outdoor tanning lotions are not recommended for indoor use, as they will inhibit the tanning process and leave a film on tanning beds. Getting The Best Value On Indoor Tanning Products Many lotion distributors and salons have on-going sales or offer coupon discounts on their products. The way they do this is by marking up the original price of the product, or making their products with inferior ingredients, then discounting them or offering free shipping, buy one-get one, or some other incentives. For instance, the manufacturer or salon may set the retail price of a lotion at $80.00, then give you 50% off. At $40.00, this may seem like a really great deal. In reality, the lotion may not even be worth $10.00. We decided to manufacture our own products, about 12 years ago, because of the lack of quality ingredients used in tanning products. The lotions' were not preparing the skin properly and some of our salon customers were getting breakouts or allergic reactions. The quality has improved somewhat, but we still find that our products produce better results for our salon and internet customers than that of other products on the market. Thanks to our great chemist, we were able to make a product using expensive "top grade" ingredients and price them reasonably. By selling the products directly to our salon and internet customers, and not through a distribution network, we have been able to keep the pricing under control. Typically, a manufacturer sells to a distributor, who sells to a salon and then to a client. If this were the case with our TanStuff or CoolStuff, for instance, the retail price to you would be from $50.00 to $70.00 per bottle. By direct selling, we are able to maintain a price of $24.50 for TanStuff and $28.50 for CoolStuff. We are also able to give you about 9 ounces of product, as opposed to the 8 ounces you get from other tanning products. Learn More... Back To Product Guide Tanning is the bodies natural reaction to sunlight. Your body is designed to tan to protect itself from sunburn. But, the tanning process, whether indoors or in the sun, can be very drying to the skin. Excessive exposures can result in pre-mature aging and wrinkling of the skin. Outdoors, your skin is subjected to sun, wind, cold, and pollutants in the air and is greatly affected by the depletion of the ozone layer, the atmospheres natural protection from the sun's harmful UV-C rays. Tanning in moderation, in addition to preparing the skin before and replenishing the skins' cells after tanning exposures is of the utmost importance. According to certified nutritionist Robert Crayhon, M.S. (Nutrition Made Simple), "toxic chemicals in many tanning lotions may damage the skin when mixed with free-radical producing sunlight." He suggests choosing sunscreens and tanning lotions that are rich in antioxidants and as low in synthetic chemicals as possible. Unfortunately today, to offset the cost of packaging and marketing, most tanning and skin care products are compromised with cheaper ingredients. Disturbed by the inferior and potentially hazardous ingredients found in many tanning and skin care products led us, in 1994, to develop our own tanning and skin care line. We began by partnering with a laboratory in Chicago to develop and formulate our products. By taking control of our own packaging and marketing, we have been able to formulate our "Natural Skin Sense" products using many of nature's finest ingredients known to heal, soften, nourish and replenish the skins' cells. We work closely with our chemist to produce products of the highest quality. With the exception of necessary preservatives, only natural ingredients known beneficial to the skin are used (see ingredients list). By controlling the complete process we are able to sell our products at realistic prices. Maximize Your Tanning
Potential ...Safely and Effectively With Skin
Sense
We Put Our Money In The Bottle....Not The Hype All of our products are formulated in a base of "True" liquid Aloe Vera, not a gel or inferior grade. Aloe Vera has the ability to penetrate human skin almost four times faster than water, while the cheaper synthetic ingredients found in most other products tend to stay on the skins' surface. Aloe is also known to produce an anti-aging effect on the skin and stimulate cell renewal. Since 1994, when we first began selling our products these are some of the comments we have been hearing from users: What's In
This Stuff? Get A Super Tan... Fast Containing 20% to 27% tyrosine*with added amino acids... Make our TanStuff 20, LegStuff, Cool Gel, and CoolStuff some of the most powerful tanning products on the market today. * Tyrosine is a natural amino acid derived from proteins. It interacts with the skins' melanin to speed up the tanning process. Most products contain less than 5% Tyrosine. The added amino acids act as catalysts to increase the skins' ability to absorb the tyrosine. Helps Hold A Tan All of our skincare products are derived from many of the finest natural and organic ingredients including a "True" Aloe Vera base (other products are based with water, mineral oil or aloe vera gel). The first ingredient listed in all of our Skin Sense products is Aloe Vera. Compare with other tanning and skin care products. Since natural ingredients have the ability to be absorbed in the skin more easily and effectively, your tan is less likely to fade quickly. Makes The Skin Touchably Soft All of our skincare products have been developed without compromising cheaper, ineffective ingredients for an expensive marketing program. We put our money in the bottle not the hype. We use "True" Aloe Vera (known for its soothing and hydrating properties) as a base and other ingredients known to heal, soften and nourish the skins' cells. Eliminates An Odor From Tanning The body's natural perspiration process, combined with the heat generated from indoor tanning equipment in a small enclosed environment, tends to leave the skin with a distinct smell. Products that are water-based and may contain cheaper ingredients, interact with the skins' moisture and actually amplify the odor. Using an Aloe Vera base, not water, and ingredients of the highest quality, virtually eliminates the tanning odor. Back To Product Guide For Serious Tanners Only Building a base tan safely and effectively can be a slow and delicate process, but when done properly and with patience, the result is always rewarding. While you can't achieve a deep, dark tan overnight, there are ways you can maximize your skins' tanning ability both from the outside, and from the inside: Prepare Your Skin...To achieve and maintain a great tan and assure that your skin retains its' moisture levels, use an appropriate cleanser...not bar soap. Your skin has a protective covering referred to as the acid mantle. It provides a limited barrier of protection from bacteria and also against moisture loss. Bar soaps are alkaline based and strip away that protective barrier resulting in a loss of moisture. Use our Cool Mint Cleansing Scrub or Tropical Mango Cleanser, formulated to promote, not rob, your skins' moisture. Our cleansers help condition the face and hard-to-tan areas like legs. They contain natural enzymes originally created to treat acne-prone skin, yet they are safe and effective for all skin types...even the most sensitive. Micro-sized granules exfoliate dead, lifeless skin, important in maintaining even skin tone. Botanical extracts nourish the skin leaving it soft and silky. Accelerate And Moisturize...Tanned skin requires special care. The tanning process, whether indoors or in the sun, can be very drying to the skin. Excessive exposures can result in premature aging and wrinkling of the skin. Preparing the skin before and replenishing the skins' cells after tanning exposures is of the utmost importance. We have been able to formulate our "Skin Sense" products using many of nature's finest ingredients known to heal, soften, nourish and replenish the skins' cells. We work closely with our chemist to produce products of the highest quality. With the exception of necessary preservatives, only natural ingredients known beneficial to the skin are used. Natural ingredients have the ability to be absorbed in the skin more easily and effectively, your tan is less likely to fade quickly. All of our products, tanning lotions, moisturizers, and even our cleansers, are formulated in a base of "True" liquid Aloe Vera, not a gel or inferior grade. Aloe Vera is known for its hydrating, softening and soothing properties and has the ability to penetrate human skin almost four times faster than water. Aloe is also known to produce an anti-aging effect on the skin and stimulate cell renewal. Drink Plenty Of Water...Water is also very important for skin health. Drink 6-8 glasses of purified water every day to help replace the skins' moisture loss from tanning. There is no substitute for "just plain water". Other beverages may contain water, but have to be metabolized before the body can use the water. Caffeinated sodas, coffee, tea, and alcohol tend to counteract the positive effects of the water they contain. They dehydrate the body, resulting in headaches, fatigue, indigestion, and even dry skin. Increase Circulation...Many have discovered the health benefits of using our PowerWave Dry Hydromassage System but, few are aware that these treatments can also help tanning too. Through its mechanical action on the soft tissues, the PowerWave, produces a reflex vasodilatation of the blood vessels, thus increasing local circulation. When circulation increases so does blood flow and the general nutrition of the tissues, improving skin tone. Additionally, treatments help reduce tension in the skin and adjoining tissues, as well. Nutritional Support For Tanning...Your skin is a reflection of the nutrients you put into your body...both through diet and supplementation. It requires an abundant supply of specific nutrients to help maximize your tanning potential. Vitamin C, Magnesium, Zinc and Essential Fats are extremely important ingredients for healthy skin. Because the body does not manufacture essential fatty acids, they must be obtained from diet or supplementation. The nutritional supplements and formulas we sell like, Ultimate Oil from Nature's Secret, are not only beneficial for optimum health, but improve your skins' ability to achieve and maintain a tan as well. Ultimate Oil users notice healthier and stronger hair, skin, and nails. An essential formula in improving most skin conditions, many state that chronically dry skin conditions disappear. Back To Product Guide by Ray Allard (Tan Plus/Essentials Of Life) It is not surprising that so many people experience skin reactions to many tanning and skincare products on the market today. Many tanning products contain chemicals that could one day prove to be more harmful than helpful, not only to your skin, but to your health as well. In the past few years, specific chemicals, like methyl nicotinate, have been added to many indoor tanning products to purposely cause the skin to redden so that the tanner will feel they are getting instant results from the product and the tanning session. In reality, they are more-likely getting an allergic reaction from these "cheap" chemical ingredients. Results can be extreme redness, red streaks or blotchy patches of skin. Masks must be worn by chemists preparing these products to prevent shortness of breath from these chemicals. These products, are commonly referred to as hot, spicy, or tingling to the skin. Although they are relatively inexpensive to produce they can sell for as much as $60.00 a bottle. Another way of causing an adverse reaction to the skin, according to our chemist, Dan Bayer, is excessive use of preservatives like Propylene Glycol and Butylene Glycol. Many manufacturers are using these as part of the base of their products. While these preservatives, if used, should appear near the bottom of the ingredient label, they are found near the top of the ingredients list. The greed of the manufacturers is further supported by the lack of product knowledge of the tanning salon operators taken in by the hype of these products through creative marketing campaigns. As the cost of safer preservatives continues to increase, and since the FDA doesn't regulate the cosmetic industry, expect to see ingredients such as Butylene Glycol being used in many popular tanning products, even those selling for more than $50.00. Butylene Glycol is a humectant most resistant to high humidity and also being used in hair sprays and setting lotions as a preservative and to retain scents. It is known to be similar in toxicity to ethylene glycol, found in antifreeze and solvents. According to "A Consumer's Dictionary Of Cosmetic Ingredients" (Ruth Winter, M.S.-1994 edition), Butylene Glycol is one of the few humectants not on the FDA's Generally Recognized As Safe List, although efforts to place it there have been made through the years. Many products also contain petroleum based ingredients such as mineral oil, petrolatum or paraffin that are derived from the same crude oil used to make gasoline and motor oil and will cause reactions in certain skin types. Like everything we put on our skin, these ingredients are absorbed and eventually end up in the bloodstream. It may take years before we realize the health effects of these chemicals in our blood. The purpose of tanning salons should be to minimize the clients chances of burning not cause it or create allergic reactions on purpose. The responsible tanning salon operator should never lose sight of that. The time has come for all retailers of cosmetic and skin care products to take responsibility for what they are selling. If they are more aware of the potential short and long term effects caused by the ingredients in their skincare products they may think twice about putting it on their shelves in the first place. If manufacturers can't find a market for their junk, they won't make it anymore. There is nothing more valuable to us than maintaining a client's trust. To offer products like these would only serve to diminish that trust and make a mockery of what we stand for. Back To Product Guide Dr. Bernard Vodnoy, a retired ophthalmologist from South Bend,Indiana, has lectured for 16 years worldwide about the roles sunlight and nutrition play in a healthy lifestyle. At 84, Dr. Vodnoy tans every day at home yet has the skin of a man 40 years his junior. What's his secret? According to Vodnoy, poorly nourished skin, not sunlight is the cause of skin cancer. He blames the "Standard American Diet" laden with fatty foods, chemical preservatives and other artificial agents that clog arteries and harm our bodies over time By age 18, he says, bad diet leaves most Americans with a form of arteriosclerosis-a thickening of the walls of blood vessels that inhibits nutrients from reaching points in the body. The outer layers of skin, which have no blood vessels, are denied nutrition by this phenomenon. This leaves the skin more susceptible to damage. Dr. Vodnoy, who eats only natural foods and is a vegetarian, shuns the medical establishment for encouraging people to avoid sunshine, especially considering the many positive physical and psychological effects that have been associated with moderate sun exposure. Vitamin D from sunlight cannot be substituted by dietary vitamin D, Vodnoy said. Nutrition For Healthy Skin The most powerful strategy you can employ to get vibrant skin, according to Robert Crayhon, M.S.,C.N., named one of the top 10 nutritionists in America, is to pursue optimum health. Crayhon believes that almost every skin problem can be helped through eating a more health-promoting diet. Skin requires the right kind of fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. A chapter in his book, Nutrition Made Simple, is dedicated to achieving and maintaining healthy skin. "If you have been good to your body your skin will show it", he says. The thinning ozone layer and over consumption of refined omega-6 fats like corn oil, safflower oil, and sunflower oil may increase the risk of skin cancer, while toxic chemicals in many tanning lotions may also damage the skin when mixed with free-radical producing sunlight. Many of the toxins in our environment and food supply may also damage the skin as they are excreted through the skin in the presence of sunlight. Crayhon suggests choosing sunscreens and tanning lotions that are rich in antioxidants and as low in synthetic chemicals as possible. He recommends increasing your intake of antioxidants vitamin A,C,E, beta-carotene, B2, zinc, selenium, taurine, and NAC. Take all of the antioxidants rather than just one or two of them. Many studies have shown that antioxidants may be a very important strategy for preventing skin cancer.
